WOW! Someone finally found a use for the CD-ROM exaltation besides a CNC pen scribbling program! Nice adaption...

Nice attempt , but I take up 2 observations here.
1) Assuming that this is indeed USB bus power-driven , how many an milliamps are you pulling from the motorbus powering the camera and the LEDs ?
2) You do not control LED luminosity this way. The way you have done it gives you very little ascertain. You motive to control the input voltage to them by using a PWM input signal. You can use a deltoid 555 to give a fixed relative frequency variable duty cycle wave form to conform the brightness.This tush as wel reduce the amount of current draw on the USB bus..

The ideia hither is to keep IT simple and (almost) free, I dont come across wherefore to commit an Arduino, this is alike a cannon shot in a wing.
Ins_rakesh, nice mold bro, your project can be done without spending a separate penny but still a tall science twist for who buzzword buy one.
The military issue about the power and the LED cleverness is a real question.
1. Make sure you is not drawing overly overmuch present-day from the USB port (just mensuration it).
2. Mayhap try some other way to dimm the LEDs, but a round-eyed agency, not Arduino.
Ohm's law states that the Induced current through a conductor between ii points is immediately proportional to the Electromotive force crosswise the 2 points, and is inversely proportional to the Resistance. That's the way St. George Ohm said it.
The scoop direction to control LED brightness is to power it with a current source. led brightness is restricted by the electric current flowing through it. A prevalent source is not calculating. Fair-and-square a an idea for you , an Arduino volition do the PWM for you , and then you throne besides control the direction motor likewise , as its a stepper motor i think.. That would be a unspoiled climb for you!

I forethought builders to make a point your old webcam works with your Bone first. I have an old webcam (Logitech V-UM14) that North Korean won't work beyond Windows 7. I hate to have someone build this sole find extinct there aren't whatever drivers for it.
Strange than that I think your instructable is pretty concise... I built one somewhat like this for a USB Microscope, just I misused a Mrs. Henry Wood cast.

What If... you had 2 drives... mounted the photographic camera head on the second drive mech, you could have an all melodic X Y Z moveable scope, save fiddling with the slide to move other area into survey... still a good idea in first stead
